Pirate stations endanger airline traffic safety
Novi Sad, November 5, 2012. (Vecernje novosti) - In recent years, there is an increasing number of pirate broadcasters whose signal interfere with legal frequencies. Since the beginning of this year, the Novi Sad police has filed three criminal charges for illegal use of frequencies.
According to the police, nine illegal radio stations broadcasting on the Novi Sad territory have been discovered so far. Three of them were not identified. Dusan Aleksic, the Department for Economic Crime, said that, according to the data of RBA and RATEL, there were 50 illegal radio stations in Serbia; 258 decisions on the banning the broadcasting have been issued since 2008.
- Pirate radio stations air music and advertisements, without paying fees to SOKOJ and music authors. They advertising space is less expensive than with licensed broadcasters - Aleksic explained.
Their work can also endanger communication with priority. Aleksic gave the example of the Belgrade illegal radio station whose signal interfered with the frequency of airline traffic consequences of which could have been fatal.
