TIJANIC: SERBIA NOT MATURE FOR PUBLIC SERVICE
Belgrade, February 15, 2013 (Mondo) - RTS General Manager Aleksandar Tijanic said tonight that the public service was a premature idea for Serbia, at least when the sustainability of the system was in question.
He noted that the issue of financing of public service could not be resolved without the state assistance.
Speaking for the program "Da, mozda, ne" (Yes, Maybe, No) aired on RTS First Program, Tijanic claimed to have proposed that the public service broadcaster be completely financed from the budget in the period of four years, since citizens were obviously not in the position to pay the amount of money the broadcaster needed for surviving.
He also pointed out that only 60 percent of Belgrade citizens were paying TV subcription fee, in Novi Sad only 55 percent, while the collection rate of the fee in Southern Serbia was between 10 and 12 percent.
