DRAFT LAW NOT KIND TO PRIVATE MEDIA
Novi Sad, March 6, 2013 (Pregled) - Representatives of the Media Coalition have proposed the provision ending the financing of state-owned media by the state as of January 1 be amended.
Vice-president of the Association of Media Zoran Sekulic said that the Draft Law was not to kind to private media and that it was over-regulating. He reminded that on January 1, 2013, Serbia had to put an end to state aid to media but it had failed to do so. Now, Sekulic said, the state needs to "explicitly prohibit" financing of media from the budget.
Vice-president of the Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia Dragan Janjic said that it was unclear how the funds would be ensured for regional public service broadcasters, as it was hard enough to finance the two existing public services.
