"Kurir" journalist called by the police

BELGRADE, April 29, 2004— Author of the interview, published in the daily "Kurir", with a member of the disbanded Special Operations Unit of the Serbian police, better known as the "Red berets", was called for interrogation by the Belgrade police. Deputy editor-in-chief of "Kurir", Dragan Vucicevic, said that the invited journalist Sasa Stajic will most probably respond to the call on Thursday and "tell everything he knows". "Captain Joe is not a fictitious character, he has a name and surname, it is the man that really exists and the man who said that", Vucicevic said for "BK" television station. Vucicevic said that on Friday he received a telephone call from the man who introduced himself as "Captain Joe" and said he was a member of the "Red berets", as well as that "he wanted to give an interview to "Kurir" on their behalf". "He arranged a meeting for Saturday in a coffee shop in the part of Belgrade called Borca", Vucicevic said, and he added that the man "proved he was a Red beret", namely "he produced valid documents and evidence that he was a member of the Special Operations Unit from 1995".
