Journalist lays complaint against police

KRAGUJEVAC, May 23, 2004 – Photojournalist Milos Ignjatovic of Kragujevac has filed a criminal complaint against an unidentified policeman who attacked him on May 17 while on assignment covering a staff protest at the Kragujevcanka department store. Ignjatovic’s lawyer, Dragan Lazarevic, said that the complaint was made on the suspicion of the policeman having committed the criminal act of abuse of authority. Ignjatovic, who works for daily Nezavisna Svetlost, claimed to have been assaulted by the policeman who struck him several times and abused him, threatening him with reprisals if his photographs were published. The Association of Independent Journalists of Serbia protested strongly at the assault and the municipal boards of the Serbian Renewal Movement and G17 Plus also issued statements on the incident.
