Broadcast Act amendments passed

BELGRADE, August 25, 2004 (Beta) – The Serbian Parliament yesterday adopted amendments to the Broadcast Act. The amendments provide for deadlines for the election of members to the Broadcast Agency Council and authorise a parliamentary committee, rather than the parliament itself, to nominate three council members. All political parties except the Serbian Radical Party voted for the changes to the Broadcast Act, which is aimed at regulating the present chaotic situation in the electronic media. Voting in favour of the amendments were 144 members of the 250-seat parliament. Thirty-five members voted against the bill and one abstained.
