Broadcast Act on agenda tomorrow

BELGRADE, August 23, 2004 (B92) – The Serbian Parliament is to vote tomorrow on amendments to the Broadcast Act. The amendments will give a deadline of thirty days for authorised bodies to submit nominations for Broadcast Agency Council members to the appropriate parliamentary committee. The parliament has sixty days from receipt of the list of candidates to make a decision on electing eight members of the council. There is also provision for candidate biographies to be available to the public for twenty days before the election of members. In theory, once the law comes into force, the council chairman must be elected within five months.
