Regional TV transmitter razed

NOVI PAZAR, August 27, 2004 (Beta) – A facility for Novi Pazar Regional Television was destroyed in a fire which broke out on Friday morning. The facility also housed a transmitter for the Novi Pazar region. Sources close to investigating authorities say that the building, on Sutenovac Hill near the town, was forcibly entered before the outbreak of the fire and that equipment worth more than 50,000 euros is missing. The regional television service operating within the Novi Pazar municipality has been disabled by the damage. In a statement today, the Association of Serbian Journalists strongly condemned the theft and arson of the transmitter and has asked the appropriate state organs to undertake an serious investigation and bring those responsible to justice. “The Association of Serbian Journalists expresses support for its colleagues in RTV Novi Pazar and encourages them to persevere with their professional activities and not allow any kind of pressure to hinder their unbiased and objective work,” said the association.
