Covic claims “media gag”

BELGRADE, September 8, 2004 (Beta) – Social Democratic Party leader Nebojsa Covic has complained to the Broadcast Agency that he is facing a media blockade as the party’s candidate for the Belgrade mayoralty. Covic has submitted a written complaint to council chairman Nenad Cekic, alleging that candidates are being treated unfairly, with media selectively favouring or ignoring certain candidates and certain tickets. He said today that he expects Cekic and the council to intervene to ensure that professional standards of journalism will be observed.
