Conference of broadcasting agencies

BUDVA, September 10, 2004 (Beta) – A conference on cooperation among broadcasting agencies of South-Easter Europe is to begin on Friday in the Montenegrin coastal resort of Budva. Attending the two-day conference will be representatives of broadcasting agencies from Bosnia-Hercegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Serbia-Montenegro, Slovenia, Italy and Albania, the OSCE said today. Representatives of the Council of Europe, the European Commission and the OSCE will also attend the conference, which has been organised jointly by the OSCE mission to Serbia-Montenegro, the Stability Pact for South-Eastern Europe, the Council of Europe and the Broadcast Council of Montenegro. Broadcast regulatory authorities have a major part to play in the establishment of free and professional electronic media throughout the region,” said the OSCE’s ambassador to Belgrade, Maurizio Massari, adding that the independence and transparency of broadcasting bodies is essential if they are to be responsible.
