Dan deputy editor convicted of libel

PODGORICA, September 21, 2004 (SRNA) – A court in Podgorica has found the deputy editor-in-chief of daily Dan guilty of libel and ordered him to pay damages of 14,000 euros. Danilo Vukovic was found guilty of damaging the reputation of Prime Minster Milo Djukanovic in articles republished from Belgrade’s Arena magazine relating to the republic’s human trafficking affair. He is required to pay the damages within thirteen days. There is an eight-day deadline for appeal. The court ruled that Vukovic was liable in his capacity of assisting the late editor-in-chief of the newspaper, Dusko Jovanovic, in damaging Djukanovic’s reputation in September 2003. Jovanovic was murdered outside the Dan premises on May 27 this year. His killer has not been caught.
