OBRADOVIC TAKES REINS OF RTV VRANJE
VRANJE, November 8, 2004 (Beta) – The owner and editor of weekly Vranjske, Vukasin Obradovic, has taken up the position of acting director of Radio Television Vranje. Obradovic was appointed to the post on October 15 by the president of the Vranje Municipal Council, Nenad Nedeljkovic, a member of the Democratic Party of Serbia. He initially refused the job, but reversed his decision nineteen days later. “They warned me that if I did not accept this position I could face certain legal problems. The other reason I took up the post was to irk the local politicians who are opposed to my appointment,” Obradovic told journalists. The former acting editor-in-chief of RTV Vranje, Jugoslav Antic, told Beta that, on commencing his duties, Obradovic immediately appointed an actor from the Vranje Theatre and contributor to weekly Vranjske, Sasa Stojkovic, as the new editor-in-chief of the station. “We were all taken by surprise by this decision, because the new editor is an actor and newspaper contributor and has never worked in television. That didn’t stop Stojkovic from immediately revising journalists’ articles and editing the television news,” said Antic. Stojkovic himself told Beta that his appointment was entirely a matter of Obradovic’s decision. “My aim is to make this television thoroughly professional, because I have the impression that the staff is divided and that it will take a long time to get them to a level appropriate for a regional television station,” said the new editor-in-chief.
