BALKAN JOURNALIST ATTACKED

BELGRADE, November 11, 2004 - Journalists Ugljesa Mrdic was attacked in central Belgrade on November 10, 2004. Mrdic, who writes for daily Balkan, told B92 that he was approached from behind and struck on the head with a metal object. His assailants then fled on foot without attempting to take anything. He was unable to comment on their identity. The journalist subsequently reported the attack to the police. "The attack was probably planned. The attackers were certainly not drug addicts or muggers, because they did not touch my bag. I can't say who is behind this attack, although it may have something to do with articles I have written because I report on organised crime and police work," said Mrdic.
