BEATING INSTEAD OF A RECEIPT

LESKOVAC, December 13, 2004 – A journalist from Leskovac daily Vecernje Novosti, Daliborka Miljkovic, has been attacked in the Chinese shopping centre of this south Serbian town. Miljkovic was assaulted on Monday when she asked for a receipt for goods she had purchased. At the time she was investigating a number of complaints by members of the public. Speaking to Beta Agency, Miljkovic said that she was attacked by a retailer in a shop when she attempted to check on complaints that vendors in the New Century Chinese shopping centre were refusing to give receipts for goods purchased. Miljkovic eventually received a receipt after the intervention of local police and market inspectors, while the shop owner, Vang Bosong, claimed that the disputed article had not been entered in the cash register and that he could not, therefore, have given her a receipt.
