SOLIDARITY WITH “GLAS”

BELGRADE, January 28, 2005 – The main printing machine of the “Glas” printing house, damaged by the intentional power cuts, has not yet been repaired. Belgrade newspapers Glas Javnosti i Kurir use the facilities of this printing house. According to technical director of “Glas” Zoran Grbic, these deliberate electricity blackouts are seen as pressure and diversion of certain political figures, who had managed to cause the malfunction of the engine of the main printing machine. While there is still no reaction of the police to this sabotage with the obvious intention to prevent those two dailies from reporting, colleagues from other printing houses offered much needed help by making their printing services available to the dailies. In the meantime, the engineers have managed to repair the damage on the engine, but the machine is still not fully functional. According to Zoran Grbic, the machine will remain out of service for some time, but the dailies will be printed on the only available machine.
