RTV NOVI SAD CRITICIZED

NOVI SAD, February 1, 2005 – Slovak National Council has accused the management of RTV Novi Sad for disregarding the interests of the Slovak newsroom. Slovak National Council accused editors of this media outlet for ignoring the national and cultural needs of the members of Slovak ethnic minority, adding that the station has downgraded the oldest festival of authentic Slovak music, traditionally held in Pivnice, to the level of common news, despite the fact that RTV Novi Sad had previously been the co-organizer of the manifestation. “RTV Novi Sad has notified the organizers of the Festival that it would no longer be the co-organizer and would no longer provide its sound and TV broadcast services. This decision was made according to the unwritten order of the general director of RTV Novi Sad Petar Jovanovic”, said in the statement. Jovanovic told Beta Agency that he had no comment on the accusations. Both Program 2 of the TV Novi Sad and Radio Novi Sad broadcast the ethnic minorities’ programs. These programs are made by the newsrooms in Hungarian, Slovak, Ruthenian, Romanian and Roma languages.
