IBARSKE NOVOSTI TO GO ON STRIKE

KRALJEVO, February 3, 2005 – “Nezavisnost” Union has backed the decision of the trade union “Samostalni” of Kraljevo-based public media house Ibarske Novosti to go on strike starting from February 9. The “Nezavisnost” union said it would support the “Samostalni” union in its request for urgent payment of the wages in arrears and dismissal of the current director and editor-in-chief of Ibarske, Veroljub Radakovic. “The very difficult financial situation is reflected in deep debts to creditors and associates, unnecessary and inadequate engaging of additional staff, and wages which are four months in arrears”, stated “Nezavisnost”. The union accuses Radakovic of renting three additional premises while the old premises stay unexploited. Furthermore, Radakovic is blamed for purchasing a new company car, for suspicious business arrangements with private companies and individuals, for conducting businesses without tender, mismanagement and inadequate business policy of all three media outlets – newspapers, radio and television.
