JOURNALISTS FOR SPORTS, NOT VIOLENCE

BELGRADE, ZAGREB, March 18, 2005 – Journalists’ Associations of Croatia and Serbia demanded from the authorities of both countries to ensure the unobstructed future sports manifestations. Both associations issued a joint statement in which they demanded from the state bodies to ensure optimal work conditions for all accredited journalists. The associations have condemned the recent assaults on their colleagues at the international handball matches in Zagreb and Belgrade, appealing on their members not to fuel supporters’ passion already running high. In the incidents that had occurred in Zagreb last week, several journalists from Serbia have been injured while reporting from the handball match between Zagreb and Partizan, and Cibona-Hemofarm basketball game. Before that, One Croatian journalist was injured in Belgrade.
