BEER IS FOOD, WINE IS NOT

BELGRADE, April 2, 2005 – Representatives of the marketing agencies regard the new Advertising act as negative one because it regulates – more than it is necessary – the commercials which, according to them, should be treated as a “museum items”. Zoltan Loncar, representative of many of the marketing agencies, wondered why the legislation foresaw the advertising of beer, but prohibited advertising of wine? Trade Minister Vojin Dimitrijevic said that wine was not rated as food, thus being regarded as an alcoholic drink. If wine was to be excluded from the prohibition, some other legislation needed to be changed.
