HEALTH MINISTER SUED MEDIA

BELGRADE, April 20, 2005 – Serbian Health Minister Tomica Milosavljevic pressed criminal charges for libel against weekly Nedeljni Telegraf and dailies Srpski Nacional and Kurir. Minister Milosavljevic’s lawsuit alleges publication of false information with regard to corruption cases in the Health Ministry. Milosavljevic said that he instructed his legal representative to file criminal charges for libel against the aforementioned dailies for dispersing false information and not providing him with the chance to comment before publishing the reports. Milosavljevic has also sued the co-president of the Association of private practitioners and dentists Zoran Stajcic, whom he accused of irresponsible and arbitrary misinforming the public. “Liability for publicly stated information and published claim is one of the main stipulations of establishing healthy democratic society”, Milosavljevic said.
