FREQUENCY LICENSES NOT ISSUED

BELGRADE, May 5, 2005 - Serbia’s Capital Investments Ministry has denied an accusation by President Boris Tadic by saying that it has issued no long-term licenses for the use of radio and television frequencies. The Ministry in a statement this morning said it had honored the moratorium on frequency allocation imposed by Tadic himself when he was Minister for Telecommunications. According to the statement, the telecommunications sector in the Capital Investment Ministry has approved only one temporary license for the use to the Serbian Orthodox Church. The license will expire when the Broadcast Act comes into force, says the ministry. The Ministry’s proposal for election of members of the Telecommunications Agency’s Managing Board is currently in the parliamentary procedure. The Ministry has, together with the Broadcast Council, forwarded to the public debate the Draft Plan for frequency allocation for analogue and television stations on the territory of Serbia, said in the statement.
